Karrie concern for Charlotte
by Karen Price

FORMER Phantom of the Opera star Peter Karrie would stop his teenage daughter from following Charlotte Church into a singing career.

Karrie, who was performing with Charlotte in Wales last night in Swansea Grand Theatre, says although the timing may have been right for the Cardiff-born soprano to release her debut album when she was just 12, he would not want his own daughter Alex to experience the downside of fame at such a young age.

And the entertainer, who says he looks upon Charlotte as his own daughter, says the singer should ignore the negative tabloid stories about her.

"Charlotte is a sensitive kid and I would think the negative stuff would have a terrible effect on her," said the father-of-six who was joined on stage by Charlotte last night as part of his Peter Karrie and Friends Tour.

"She's no different to anyone else and has ups and downs like the rest of us.

"I would tell her to just ignore the negative tabloid reports."

Karrie, from Bridgend, says his 15-year-old daughter Alex has a "beautiful voice" but she prefers horse jumping to singing.

"I wouldn't have wanted her to go into music as young as Charlotte did due to the stresses and strains. I want her to enjoy childhood. I've known Charlotte so long I regard her as part of the family. We've done a few shows together in the past. She has changed direction in her career so it was good to see how she's changed."
