evening like no other"
By Elissa Roberts
The
evening was like no other. First, The Dallas Symphony
orchestra played a few songs, like arrival of the Guest, By
R.Wagner, Evening Prayer, by E. Humperdink, and Gallop Finale,
by W. Walton. They did a very nice job, but all I and hundreds
of others wanted to see, and hear, was Charlotte. They
introduced her as a young welsh girl with an extraordinary
gift, international singing soprano, Charlotte Church. Just
when I thought they couldn't postpone her coming out any
longer, there she was, kind of sneaking out on stage, looking
kind of tired. But there was a very good reason for this. She
had a cold. But despite that, she looked amazing! Wearing the
Purple tank and pink skirt she has worn before to previous
affairs, with her hair down and swept to the side. "Wow,
I'm in Dallas! Man, it sure is Hot!" She remarks with a
giggle. "I really am very glad to be here, but you will
have to excuse me if I sound crackly, and stuffed up, because
I have a cold." Then she introduced her first song,
Tonight. Then followed up that song with The Water is Wide, My
Lagan Love, If I loved You, and Pie Jesu. All I was thinking
the entire time was WOW. I have heard all of her songs before
on CD, but in person is a totally different experience.
Especially with the acoustics in the Myerson, it felt like an
angel had swept in and taken us all away. In between some of
the songs she made some comments on her time in Dallas so far
and about how good the shopping is here. "I've heard
Dallas is a great place to come shopping, and that suits me,
because I'm a shop-a-holic, and I'm 15, and that is my
job!" Well, needless to say, that got a few laughs from
the audience. Then, she left the stage to take a break. The
DSO took over again to play The Suit from Prince Valiant,
Night of my Nights, and the Yellow Rose of Texas. Then the
conductor, Richard Kaufman, then welcomed back Charlotte, who
had changed in to a backless, glittery-blue dress, and her
hair had been pulled half back in two pieces. I personally
believe that that dress was better than the first. But she
still looked amazing as usual. She then chatted on for a bit
on how she had gone to Pappadoes for a steak dinner on Friday,
and had had to take a helicopter, but they couldn't find
anywhere to land so she got to circle around Dallas for a
while. She also mentioned how she had gotten to play tennis
for a while. " I am the most unathletic person in the
world, so why I play tennis is beyond me", "but, I
still played today, but my tennis shoes were two sizes too
small, so the shoes I'm wearing now are killing me!" Then
she went on to sing La Pastorella, Cant Help Lovin Dat Man of
Mine, Summertime, A Bit of Earth, Bali Hai, and Bridge Over
Troubled Water. BOTW, was supposed to be her last song of the
night, but that got a 5 minute standing ovation, so she came
back to sing Papa Can You Hear me?. Then THAT song got another
standing ovation so she came back once more to sing Danny Boy.
But before going on with the song, she told us that that was
the absolute last song of the night, because it was late, and
she was sick, and tired, and wanted to go to bed, so she would
be ready for a full day of shopping the next day. I guess what
else could you expect?

"A Sensational Dallas Performance
"
By Alestian I just wanted to say that last night's Dallas concert was the first time I had ever been to the Meyerson and the first time I had ever heard Charlotte Church sing live. I am still in absolute admiration of her. She is so talented and I pray that she continues to delight the world with her music for many years to come. She sang all of my favorites and even one favorite that I was delightfully surprised by - Bridge Over Troubled Waters. I grew up singing that song for talent shows and church. My mother, who I took to the concert, looked at me when she started singing that song and I said "Now what were the odds of her singing that song tonight? Of all the songs in the world?" We were both so thrilled and excited that my mother nearly had tears in her eyes. It was the most special and joyous moment for both of us. I can literally say that I have not felt anything like what I felt listening to her sing before. It was magical and sensational and I am a fan for life. She received two standing ovations and should have gotten more. I am still very excited about all of it.
Anyway, as soon as the concert was over I immediately purchased her mouse pad, picture, CDs, DVDs, and even two little bears that were on the display stand in the Symphony Store. I was completely excited. I can't wait to hear her sing again.
If you have the means, please do not miss her concerts. You will not believe the experience that awaits you. She is just as beautiful inside as the music that she creates. I just love the fact that she is down to earth. She has so much character and personality that it really makes the concert. She talked about having a cold, her helicopter ride over Dallas, shopping, playing tennis, and everything. She is really fantastic.
