Charlotte lights up London
This IS London

Charlotte Church braved the elements again in Oxford Street to turn on the Christmas lights in the teeming rain.

As a 100-strong crowd huddled together, the 14-year-old from Cardiff appeared on the first-floor balcony of the HMV store on Oxford Street with her five-year-old cousin Elliott.

Once the shy Elliott had wished the crowd a "happy Christmas", the singer, who has already sold five million albums worldwide, proved herself the consummate professional by promoting her latest album Dream A Dream which was released on Monday.

Miss Church said: "It's a great pleasure to be here with you, I'm so excited. I'm sorry that it's raining and thank you for waiting for me."

Following an enthusiastic countdown, the decorations along Oxford Street burst into light to the sound of peeling bells played over loud speakers, while glitter fired out on to the fans below.

Miss Church then sang three festive songs accompanied by 13 members of the New London Children's Choir.
