SINGER Charlotte
Church has made an even more lasting impression on her home city by
adding her handprints to the Welsh Walk of Fame in Cardiff.
Recently back
from New York, the international star took time out from her world
tour to make her mark in concrete and in Welsh history at the
Hollywood-style walk in Cardiff Bay.
Squealing as
she placed her palms in dental alginate used to make the mould she
described the experience as “weird but fun”.
“My fingers
look really short and even my watch came out,” she said.
“It was a lot
of fun but the stuff felt really weird and stodgy. It smelt very
minty.
“I really
feel part of Welsh history now. This will never go away unless
somebody cracks it! I’m glad it was in Cardiff, which is better
than Hollywood!”
Fittingly the
star, who celebrated her fourteenth birthday last month, was the
fourteenth celebrity to add her handprints to the walk. Other
artistes who have taken part include Peter Karrie, Iris Williams and
Ruth Madoc.
Charlotte, who
is in Cardiff for three days before jetting off to Scandinavia and
Brazil as part of her world tour, said she was looking forward to
performing at the Classical Brit Awards.
“I’m very
excited. It has been really hectic on tour but a lot of fun,” she
said.
“I will be
travelling for the next few months and then will have to come home
to do my exams.”
The Welsh Walk
of Fame has now been officially handed over to Mermaid Quay - the £25m
shopping and leisure complex - by Cardiff Bay Development
Corporation. Celebrity handprints are being collected but the
location of the walk has not yet been decided.
John Coll,
centre manager, said: “We are delighted that Charlotte Church has
added her prints to the Welsh Walk of Fame. All the personalities
featured should provide a touch of glamour and serve as an added
attraction to people visiting Mermaid Quay.”
