Schoolgirl Star Suffers
First Heartache Of Career
29/11/1999
SCHOOLGIRL star
Charlotte Church has suffered the first heartache in her rise to
showbiz fame because she’s had to give away her pet iguana.
Top-selling
singer Charlotte, 13, loved the nine-inch lizard called Iggy given
to her three years ago. But she has had to give Iggy away because
she’s been too busy jetting around the world to look after it.
A friend said,
“Charlotte was really upset to say goodbye to Iggy. But any pet
needs a lot of care and attention - even a lizard.
“Charlotte
and the family were never at home long enough to give Iggy enough
tender loving care.”
She had chosen
the iguana instead of a cat or a hamster because it was “more
interest-ing”.
Her mother
Maria and father James accompany Charlotte on her world-wide tours.
That had left
little time for Iggy, who Charlotte kept in a tank in her bedroom at
her Cardiff home. But he had now gone to “good home” of a friend
at the Howells Girls School in Cardiff - on condition Charlotte can
visit Iggy when she is home.
Charlotte’s
second album, simply called Charlotte Church, is
setting new records. She is the only British singer to have two
albums in the American top 100. But her fortune, estimated at £9m,
is being kept in a trust fund until she is 18.
Charlotte gets
an allowance of £50 a month - the same as her schoolmates. She is
working an her biography which is expected to be published next
year.
