It's Often the highlight of a child's year-
taking part in the school concert.
From the outset, they may appear nervous but
secretly the pupils relish the thought of taking to the stage and showing
off their singing talents in front of their teachers, families and friends.
Most of them have had little experience of performing for an audience but,
as the camcorders roll, they relax and thoroughly enjoy themselves.
At Howell's School in Cardiff, scores of
pupils, will be taking to the stage next week for their summer concert. But, for
one of those pupils, the performance will undoubtedly come as naturally as getting
out of bed in the morning.
That pupil is the multi-millionaire teenage soprano
Charlotte church, who has sold more than 5M records worldwide since rising to fame
18 months ago.
During that time she has performed in front of some of the
world's most famous names, including American president Bill Clinton, the Pope and the Queen.
She has also shared the billing with top celebrities such as Tom Jones.
She is now the biggest selling British artist in
America and has appeared at the MTV Music Awards in New York.
But When she sings at her school next week, the 14
year old will be just like every other pupil taking part in the concert. She will not
perform any solos or receive any more attention than her school
friends.
Instead, she will be doing what she loves best, but unlike
most occasions these days, when she is treated as a celebrity, she will be
just Chrlotte Church the schoolgirl.
Although Charlotte has said she does not get nervous
when she performs, it may be a different story when she joins her school friends on stage.
But you can bet her proud parents, Maria and James, and other
members of the Church family, will be just as impressed with her
performance as a schoolgirl as when she sings in fron of an A list
of stars.
Terry Kenny, a trustee of Charlotte's fund, said
Charlotte was looking forward to the shows.
Wehn she is at school she likes to join in with other girls
as much as possible and be as normal possible. She's looking forward
to taking part in the concert.
The Middle School At Howell's is holding concerts on
Wenesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.
Friday's concert will be an old time music hall
when the children will perform a number of traditional songs.
It is a private event for the school, parents and children
at the School, said Mr Kenny.
She will be one of many singers. The school is fairly musical.
Charlotte will get plenty of practice for her school performance when
she headlines the Proms in the Park at Singleton Park in Swansea, on Sunday.
