Charlotte Church is holding her 18th birthday celebrations in
Cardiff and has planned parties with both family and friends, but
the location remains a closely guarded secret.
"It's just the usual, family and friends," she said. "A family party
and then with my friends."
Church is set to take control of a multi-million-pound fortune she
has earned selling more than 10 million records since she started
singing at the age of 11.
But while she has millions to play with the singer insists that she
will not indulge in a massive spending spree.
The star laughed off suggestions that she was going to buy an island
retreat in St Lucia in the Caribbean, saying she was happy to stay
in her home town of Cardiff.
Looking back over her teenage years Church said that her success was
a great experience but not something for the faint hearted.
"It's a bit crazy, but all in all it was a fun experience, but fame
is only for the strong."
Meanwhile, Ladbrokes bookmakers are offering odds of 100/1 that the
singer will be crowned the next Princess of Wales, and odds of 66/1
for those who think she will be admitted to the Priory on her 21st
birthday.
Celebrations started early on Thursday as Church visited the
University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff as patron of the Noah's Ark
Appeal, which is raising money to fund the first children's hospital
in Wales.
The singer was presented with a birthday cake by children at the
hospital who helped her celebrate by blowing out the candles.
The campaign began in May 2000 and Church has donated many prized
possessions to fund the appeal, including the dress she wore while
singing for President Bill Clinton in 1999, which is currently being
auctioned.
